Terms of Use

Last updated: 31 August 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Road Charge Pilot mobile application and the roadchargepilot.com website (together, the "Service"), provided by Harrison Hunter Trading Ltd. trading as Road Charge Pilot, a company registered in England & Wales (company no. 03952501, registered office 352 Blackgate Lane, Holmes, Preston, Lancashire, PR4 6JJ) ("we", "us", "our"). By downloading, installing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

1. What Road Charge Pilot is

Road Charge Pilot is a notification tool. It uses your device's location to detect when your vehicle has entered a UK road-charging zone (such as a Clean Air Zone, ULEZ, toll road, or a barrierless crossing) and alerts you, together with an indication of whether a charge is likely to apply to your vehicle and, where applicable, the payment deadline.

Road Charge Pilot is not a payment service, and it is not the operator of any road-charging scheme. It doesn't pay any charge on your behalf, and it doesn't have any special knowledge of, or relationship with, the bodies that operate these schemes (such as Transport for London, local councils, or toll operators). You are solely responsible for verifying and paying any charge that applies to you, by the deadline set by the relevant scheme operator, regardless of what the Service tells you.

Compliance and emissions-standard information shown in the Service (including any estimate derived from a vehicle's fuel type and first registration date rather than a confirmed DVLA lookup) is provided for guidance only and may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong. It is not a substitute for checking directly with the relevant scheme operator, and we accept no liability for charges, fines, or penalty notices incurred as a result of relying on it.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You need to sign in (via Sign in with Apple or Google) to use the Service, and must be legally capable of entering into a binding contract in your jurisdiction. You're responsible for keeping your account secure and for all activity under it.

3. Subscription, free trial and billing

Full use of the Service requires a paid subscription, currently priced at £12 per year following a 7-day free trial. Subscriptions are sold, billed, and renewed automatically through the Apple App Store or Google Play. We don't process payments directly, and we don't have access to cancel a subscription on your behalf.

  • Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before renewal, via your Apple ID or Google Play account settings.
  • If you don't cancel during the free trial, you'll be charged for the subscription once the trial ends.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own refund policies, not by us directly.
  • We may change subscription pricing for future terms; any change will be shown before it takes effect, in line with the App Store/Google Play's own rules on notifying subscribers.

4. Your responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Provide accurate vehicle details (registration, fuel type, and registration date where entered manually); inaccurate details may lead to inaccurate compliance guidance;
  • Use the Service only for lawful purposes, and not attempt to interfere with, reverse engineer, or misuse it;
  • Independently verify and pay any road charge that applies to you, by its deadline, directly with the relevant scheme operator.

5. Location and background tracking

The Service relies on background and precise location access to detect zone crossings. It won't work correctly without it. Full detail on what's collected and why is in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

6. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the Service running reliably, but don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times. Location detection can be affected by things outside our control, including your device's settings, connectivity, and the accuracy of GPS itself. We may add, change, or remove zones, features, or the Service as a whole, with or without notice.

7. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties, express or implied, about the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of zone detection or compliance guidance. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or anything else that can't lawfully be excluded under English law. Subject to that, we won't be liable for any charge, fine, penalty notice, or other loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Service.

8. Intellectual property

The Service, including its branding, design, and content, belongs to us or our licensors. You're granted a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app for its intended purpose, nothing more.

9. Termination

You can stop using the Service, and delete your account, at any time. We may suspend or terminate access to the Service for anyone who breaches these Terms.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
